Position Description:
DLA Piper, a leader in the practice of law worldwide, seeks a Sr. Marketing Manager for our New York office. DLA Piper’s Marketing team provides support to the law firm’s regional, practice group and sector leadership on the development and implementation of strategic marketing and business development initiatives. The Sr. Manager (Sector Marketing) supports a variety of marketing, business development and promotional activities and works with Global Sector leaders, Chief Marketing Officer, Director of Marketing and supporting staff to ensure that sector initiatives align with the global firm’s strategy and are professionally executed.
The Sr. Manager for Sector Marketing will be located in New York and will have primary responsibility for the following:


  • Counsel leadership in the development and oversight of sector(s) strategic plans and budgets as well as coordination and implementation across the firm nationally and internationally

  • Work with the Communications and Media Relations team to identify and pursue profile raising opportunities in key industry and professional publications and other high-level communications media

  • Develop targeted and highly customized qualifications, presentations and proposals in support of sector lawyers in their pursuit of new business

  • Work with the Pitching & Tendering team as a subject matter expert in the firm’s development of sector and multi-jurisdictional RFP responses

  • Work with the Events team to develop, manage and implement client seminars, webinars, and sponsorships regionally, nationally and internationally

  • Work with the Competitive Intelligence team to conduct research and compile information regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry and market trends to aid in the development of marketing plans, presentations and proposals

  • Assist in the organization and maintenance of representative matters, client lists and industry/geographic experience for ongoing use in practice area marketing efforts

  • Manage the regular update of Web marketing content for assigned sector(s) and related subpractice area descriptions with our Marketing Operations, Communications and Design teams.

  • Coordinate submissions with the Nominations team for Chambers and Legal 500.


Position Requirements:

  • A BS or BA degree in marketing, communications or related field is required. MBA or JD highly desirable.

  • 8+ years marketing experience in a professional services, corporate or agency environment.

  • Experience in relationship marketing, preferably in a large law firm setting

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to prioritize and multitask and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.

  • Able to work independently as well as within cross-functional teams

  • Enthusiasm for and dedication to the development of a law firm marketing career

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience in InterAction or other CRM programs highly desirable.
