Under moderate supervision, the Premium Auditor will perform examination of policyholders' accounting and financial records to insure accurate calculation of earned premium for small to medium, moderately complex risks. They will insure that audited exposures (payroll, sales, fixed assets, etc.) are accurately calculated within strict insurance guidelines. The Premium Auditor will communicate audit findings through detailed formal reports supported by audit workpapers and will assist senior-level premium auditors on larger, more complex risks. They will conduct low-complexity internal claims audits.


Responsibilities:

  • Review appropriate company files and documentation to determine specific coverages provided by the policy and plan audit strategy. 
  • Investigate policyholder operations to verify correctness of coverage exposures and classifications as they apply to the policy and insure conformity to various state laws and insurance regulations. 
  • Prepare detailed workpapers and written correspondence in support of audit findings. 
  • Prepare and disseminate post-audit information to various departments (Sales, Underwriting, etc.) to initiate necessary changes to the policy contract. 
  • Perform test audits on selected policyholders at policy inception to: ensure all exposures were identified and properly classified; establish proper policyholder accounting practices as they pertain to auditing procedures and insurance regulations. 
  • With minimal oversight/intervention, schedule audit appointments with policyholders with respect to priority of audit assignments and efficient time utilization. 
  • Prepare routine office and department reports such as: Production Reports, Itineraries, Expense Accounts, etc. 
  • As required, assist senior-level premium auditors on larger, more complex premium audits. Conduct low-complexity internal claims audits.



Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of accounting concepts. 
  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills needed to exchange information with people at many different levels in an organization and resolve disputes. 
  • Proficiency with laptop/desktop computers and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, etc.). 
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. 
  • A valid driver's license is required for regular travel to customer locations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage own workload. 
  • At least 12 months directly relevant experience, with premium audit experience preferred.
