Instrumentation Specialists I
Salary: $45,229 – $46,885
Job Description: The New York City Department Environmental Protection (DEP) seek two candidates to assist with instrumentation and control operations at the Croton Water Filtration Plant within the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations. Candidates will skillfully adjust, calibrate, service, maintain, repair, program, calculate parameters, and test automatic controls and instrumentation including telephone and radio equipment; perform supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), programmable logic controller (PLC), gas monitoring systems, automatic chemical dosing system, data recorders, variable frequency drives, analyzers, level meters, fire alarm system, intercoms, security systems, and other related instrumentation; maintain detailed records on responsible equipment; perform periodic inspections of instrumentation and metering controls and report malfunctions; perform maintenance and service continuous monitoring system, alarms systems, and process control systems ensuring that documentation, observations and calibration of instrumentation conform to standard operating procedures and quality assurance plans; utilize computer and server resources directly related to instrumentation equipment signal performance, i.e. SCADA related workstations, application software, and network transmission components; utilize a variety of testing devices and software diagnostic routines to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or adjust instrumentation and micro-computer based data acquisition control system equipment, including manometers, timers, potentiometers, magmeters, multimeters, current loop generators, pressure gauges, digital and frequency counters according to manufacturer's recommendations, and assist higher level technicians in more complex repairs and other work as needed; monitor and maintain spare part inventory for plant instrumentation and control equipment; utilize the CMMS to track inventories, issue parts and equipment, and order equipment; oversee the maintenance of critical equipment to ensure maintenance is prioritized and that equipment reliability is maximized; supervise and oversee the installation, setup and calibration of instruments, controls, telemetric equipment and related equipment by outside contractors; adhere to and comply with all environmental, health and safety laws, agency policies, rules and regulations; read and interpret wiring schematics, mechanical drawings and specifications as necessary to install, service, and/or repair equipment in accordance with related regulations; and support the annual budget review to provide estimates of labor, materials and supplies required.
Qualifications:
(1) An associate degree in electrical construction and instrumentation, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, electromechanical engineering technology, or electronic engineering technology from a college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), AND one year of full-time satisfactory experience within the last ten years in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic instrumentation and control systems, including microprocessors, and electrical and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems; or
(2) Graduation from a trade, technical or vocational school approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization with a major course of study in electrical, electronic, electromechanical or mechanical technology AND three years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
(3) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization AND four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above.
College education leading to a degree in one of the areas of study described in "1" above may be substituted only in "2" or "3" above for a maximum of three years of experience at the rate of 30 semester credits for one year of full-time satisfactory experience.
Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
(2) Graduation from a trade, technical or vocational school approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization with a major course of study in electrical, electronic, electromechanical or mechanical technology AND three years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
(3) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization AND four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above.
