About the Job

Our client in the Elmont area of NY has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Assembler (BAL) Developer.

Responsibilities:

•Architect, develop, maintain and support software products for the management of application report and system log output in the IBM z/OS mainframe environment. 

•Experience with reentrant code and multi-threaded tasks is essential. 

•Must work closely with Product Manager and database developers to ensure conformance to overall product design objectives.  

•Learn the existing environments and look for code reuse where possible.

•Design, code and test product code.

•Build re-usable templates.

•Produce and implement unit tests.

•Follow the standard test framework and development lifecycle process.

•Author the required documentation and release notes in conformance with company standards.

•Provide Level 3 support for customer reported issues.  

Requirements:

•7+ years BAL programming experience, preferably in a software vendor development role.

•In depth knowledge of z/OS assembler and macro languages.

•Significant experience with VSAM and BDAM access methods.

•DB2 database programming experience and/or other RDBMS.

•Significant experience with development and/or maintenance of multi-threaded task code.

•In-depth experience in analyzing z/OS application and system dumps.

•Thorough understanding of debugging techniques for assembler language development.

•Knowledge of JES2 (JES3 also desirable).

•Experience in navigating and manipulating z/OS control blocks.

•Experience with ISPF Dialog Management code is highly desirable.

•REXX/CLIST programming experience.

•Strong knowledge of z/OS JCL.
