Job: SQL Server Support Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The Application Support Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the current IT SQL Server environment on a day-to-day basis, performing new installations and work closely with all members of the Technical Support team to respond to and resolve complex systems issues in a timely fashion. Furthermore, he/she will work with our Support team to implement new solutions. This position will need to provide quality service with exemplary professionalism in a fast paced technical environment. The best candidate will have the ability to learn and adjust quickly to a growing, ever-changing environment. Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, configuration and ongoing support of Windows 2000/2003/2008 server-based applications to support core business units.
  • Perform installation, configuration and ongoing support of Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008.
  • Work with other departments as part of an implementation team.
  • Able to perform Server product install, upgrades Deployments, and modify configuration to platforms running IIS.
  • Able to Monitor performance and trouble shoot business-level problems at the server level (triage) and work with Development/QA/BA teams to provide guidance and advice on issues.
  • Configure server parameters and fine-tuning techniques.
  • Ability to analyze server logs.
  • Provide production support (user /server support).
  • Responsible for installation of Windows based applications to support core business units.
  • Works closely with developers, QA and operational support group as part of implementation and/or upgrade support team.
  • Support Install, configure, troubleshoot and administration of the SQL Server environment.
  • Perform performance monitoring and capacity planning. Perform database backups, security administration, execute update scripts and interact closely with developers.
  • Perform monthly server maintenance.
  • Establish, configure and maintain the periodic (daily/weekly/monthly) maintenance routines for the stable house keeping of SQL Server operations.
  • Support and execute on monthly SQL Update maintenance in support of periodic updates from Microsoft Support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Intermediate MS SQL Server 2005/2008 skills.
  • Intermediate Windows Server 2003/2008, SharePoint 2007/2010 and Web Administration skills.
  • 3 years work experience in distributed enterprise-class IT systems.
  • Experience in heterogeneous computing environments (Windows Server, SQL Server, Sharepoint, IIS, etc.).
  • 3 years work experience in implementing best practices, performance tuning and monitoring.
  • 3 years work experience in performing server product installations and configuration.
  • 3 years work experience monitoring systems and practices demonstrated ability to think critically and solve complex issues.
  • 3 years work experience administering SQL 2005/2008 database environments.
  • 3 years work experience with higher availability systems, including clusters and load balancing techniques.
  • 3 years work experience in Disaster Recovery preparation and testing.
  • Demonstrated work experience with backup and recovery system using DDUP technologies.
  • Proven ability to prioritize across multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience adapting in a dynamic work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of applied IT service management frameworks.
  • Application of HIPAA and HITECH requirements to the IT environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service ethic.
  • Ability to lift 40+ pounds.
