JOB LOCATION: New York, NY 10019
BASIC PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for managing the Print & Pattern Department. This department supports both the Design and R&D organizations including, Refined, Casual, Sweaters, Dresses divisions for Misses, Petites and Woman. This position creates prints, yarn dyes, embroideries that are technically ready for production. Position is responsible for looking at trends in the market and determining how to apply these tends to Talbots.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Create print designs that are exclusive to Talbots.
• Manage the work of the CAD team to create original artwork that is technically ready for production. This includes, prints, yarn dyes, jacquards and embroideries. As well as prioritizing and the workload for adherence to the design calendar. Ensure deadlines are met.
• Present print seasonal directions to the designers.
• Collaborate with the rest of the design team to develop focused and cohesive prints within the collection.
• Organize print appointments with print studios/vintage resources to view print collections and archival services to identify brand-right prints
• Review and select new print designs that are unique and exclusive to Talbots.
• Research and present print concepts that work into the seasonal collections. Present inspirational ideas, vintage swatches, techniques, etc. to director and to the department head, specific to the category and concept.
• Prepare print development packages, including CAD/discs/technical technique requirements.
• Work with in-house CAD Department as well as outside studios to develop and style prints.
• Work with Product Development and R&D to determine sources and allocation to specific factories/countries.
• Partner with Product Development and Production for approvals, corrections, updates and changes, post-line review.
• Maintain and update print report.
• Act as resource to the design group on print execution.
• Train and develop Print assistant
• Manage print library

REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
• PC proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to be resourceful and troubleshoot, as well as flexible and collaborative.
• Ability to act as a creative liaison between teams.
• Ability to interpret aesthetic design color inspiration into production ready standards.
• Ability to research and develop prints that coordinate within all categories of the collection.
• Ability to offer alternative methods to maintain cost-effective measures.
• Ability to integrate key signature concepts into all categories/departments within the collection.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• BFA and six to eight years experience working in a print environment.
• Technical expertise in prints, color matching and creation of colorways.
• Understanding of global logistic limitations and ability to find creative solutions for product development.
• Must possess a brand appropriate design aesthetic
• Be culturally aware and able to work with global partners.
• Be self motivated and proactive
• Experience in managing/leading a staff.
